Santino Marella was one of his kind WWE superstar pro-wrestling ever seen. He is one of those superstars who were funny but yet made a successful career for themselves. Santino became one of the most popular WWE superstars because of his character and the finishing move called ‘The Cobra’.

Santino Marella won the Intercontinental Championship on his debut in RAW, which was in Italy. Since then he won multiple championships in WWE. Because of his iconic finisher, ‘The Cobra’, Santino almost won the World Heavyweight Championship at the 2012 Elimination Chamber.

Recently, Santino appeared on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, where he revealed the origins of his popular finishing move. A man named Taro inspired Santino at a bar with his finishing move. He was showing Santino how he does a snake puppet by transforming his hands.

Santino thought it was funny and remembered it. The next time he met Taro again and had a laugh over this move which Santino also thought was funny. Fast-forward ahead sometime later, he used this move at a house show in Atlanta against Chavo or Carlito. He called it ‘Schoolboy From Hell’.

When Santino performed the move in Atlanta, he showed it to John Cena. Santino said, “So I did it at a live event. I told John Cena, I said ‘hey watch this, I’m going to try something.’ And I did the Cobra, and the audience laughed, like, for the first time. I stood there, made this face, did the whole thing, hit him with it, rolled him.”

Cena also thought it was a funny move, and it kept the fans entertained. Santino further added, “I came back and he (John Cena) goes, I would keep that if I were you, that was funny as hell.” (H/T Wrestling Inc)

The Cobra being the most effective finisher of all time

Santino Marella has given thousands of Cobra finishers to date. There are only two wrestlers to kick out after receiving the Cobra. Daniel Bryan and Sheamus.

Sometime back Santino also appeared on an interview with Chris Van Vliet where he said, “It’s (The Cobra) one of the most effective finishers of all time”

Santino Marella announced his retirement at a house show because of a serious neck injury. He has definitely left his mark in WWE as ‘The Cobra’ finisher.
