In the second episode of the third season of ‘Hart to Heart’, John Cena began talking about his relationship with his father. While recalling his post-college days, he also stumbled upon the first time he learned about his paycheck. It happened after he graduated from college. Eventually, when he landed at WWE, the company offered him an independent contract rather than hiring him at first.

The paycheck offered merely $12,000 a year. “Before I was hired by the WWE, my first contract for the WWE was $12,000 a year. I quit my job the day I was signed,” recalled ‘The Champ’ during the conversation.  He added, “I think my rent was a thousand bucks a month. So like, all my money, is now rent. 12,000 bucks a year. Quit my job.”

All of this happened when he was already in debt. And even though things got better for him moving forward, his career path still had its ups and downs.
