One of the largest sports entertainment companies, WWE is equally about delivering promos, crafting storylines, and creating characters as much as it is about wrestling and sports. Over the years, the company has produced several names such as John Cena, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Hulk Hogan, and others who have excelled both in and out of the ring.

However, only a few names from their vast roster went on to become serial main-eventers. Names such as Cena, Reigns, and Hogan have consistently main-evented WrestleManias and headlined other events. Although, during a month-old podcast, when asked if Cena demanded the main-event position, he gave a straight answer to it.

What did John Cena claim amidst allegations of demanding consistent WrestleMania main events?

Speaking on the NotSam Wrestling podcast, the 45-year-old John Cena was faced with the allegations of asking about WrestleMania’s main events and wins. However, Cena would deny the allegations and claimed that he does not work like that.

He would further bring up examples from his own WrestleMania career to justify his answer. The 16-time World Champion also stated how he tries to instill the same mindset in the younger generation of working hard and getting the deserved outcome.

Cena said, “Not once. That’s not how I operate. And I try to instill that mindset in the young performers. If you can you can waste your time in jockeying for a position. And you can use your time I don’t want to say it’s a waste because it’s worked successfully for people. Or you can just get your opportunities and make the best of them.”

Over his career, Cena has main evented 5 WrestleManias, behind only Hulk Hogan’s 8 WrestleMania main events, and Roman Reigns’ 7 WrestleMania main events. Currently, Reigns is the most dominant name when it comes to headlining marquee events and as such Cena’s advise for some younger talent to work hard could go a long way.

Despite being positioned in main events it wasn’t until 2021 that Reigns started to get the recognition the company wanted for him.

Cena would bring examples of his Firefly Funhouse match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36. Or against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34, both the times where he put his opponents over.
