A world champion is a top position in any wrestling company. Being a champion comes with the responsibility of upholding the prestige of the roster that’s trying to take the title from the champion. Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are great examples of champions in the modern era who redefined the term and made it a spectacle.
Their presence alone is an event on the regular TV shows, Raw and SmackDown. Competing with either in the ring is a highlight of any wrestler’s career. But this recently crowned champion doesn’t want to continue in their footsteps and rather go back in time.

After winning his first world championship since 2019, Seth Rollins hopped on an interview with Mail Sport. Not only did he talk about the new win, but he also talked about his relations with Bret Hart. One striking thing in this interview, though, had to be when Rollins talked about how his title reign is going to be different.
He acknowledged The Tribal Chief and spoke of the exciting moments in The Bloodline’s history. But at the end, he added, “But for me, it’s not necessarily the way I want to be champion.“
Furthermore, he added, that Lesnar and Reigns’ championship reign isn’t his way. He said, “That really wasn’t the type of champion I wanted to be. I saw what that did to us as a roster and as a business and I didn’t like it; and if I ever was going to be a champion and the guy at the top I wanted to be like the guys I idolized and not the guys I thought were not great for the business overall.”
But while Rollins might have a different idea when it comes to being a champion, the rest of the audience is divided. While everyone loves a fighting champion, they also love a champion who makes an event out of their arrival.
Why fans are divided when it comes to part-timer champions?
Part-time champions took hold of WWE when Brock Lesnar first became champion. Having dominated in the UFC, Lesnar was mega-popular when it came to combat sports and he had demands before returning to WWE. Even though he was the WWE champion, Lesnar only appeared once or twice in a month.

Seeing Lesnar’s rise to the top through his minimal appearances, Reigns repeated his formula after returning in 2020. But this time, Reigns infused it with storylines that spanned years. It clicked with the audience and some fans don’t even want to see Reigns lose until the next year.
