Jake Roberts wanted to put The Undertaker over despite quitting
The Undertaker began his feud with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts in the early part of 1992, when he turned face. The feud would culminate at WrestleMania 8. ‘WWE booked The Phenom’ to go over, but just a day before the match, the entire situation was clouded.
On the ‘DDP Snake Pit’ podcast, Roberts revealed that he was promised a creative role within the company around the time of this match. But when the deal fell through and Roberts wanted to quit.
Roberts said, “What the fans didn’t know was the night before [WrestleMania 8] I’d had a meeting with Vince McMahon and told him that I was quitting. He had broken too many promises to me. He had promised me a certain position that I wanted. … Creative, yeah…”.
Despite this, he wanted to put over The Undertaker and not let fans suffer because of his indifferences with the company. The legend stated, “I would have never walked out,” No (the match was not in jeopardy) I was gonna do the job for Mark because I wanted to and for the business. … I’m not gonna screw the fans by not giving them that.”
However, Roberts lost to Taker at that event. His six-year tenure ended. He switched to WCW but later on, returned to WWE in 1996. The WWE legend said he would put over The Undertaker because the two were friends and worked together for a long time.

Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts played a vicious evil heel during his first WWE run. The Ultimate Warrior asked for his help in 1991 after being scared by The Undertaker. This followed a number of segments where Roberts would apparently help Warrior to learn the art of defeating The Undertaker.
During one segment, the Warrior had to walk through a room full of snakes to get to a chest that had the ‘answer’. However, after he opened the chest, he was allegedly bitten by a king cobra, which left him weak. Roberts then revealed that he had been working with The Undertaker and his manager, Paul Bearer.
The segment became iconic with Roberts’ famous words ‘Never trust a snake’. WWE inducted Roberts into their Hall of Fame in 2015.
