Since LA Knight made the main roster, he has gotten over with the fans. Be it with his throwback-style character and catchphrases or with his in-ring performance, Knight is emerging as a fast fan favorite. His popularity has seen him move above Roman Reigns, as WWE’s top merchandise seller for the month of July. His charisma and use of catchphrases are getting him the spotlight. But how did he develop those catchphrases that the fans latch on t and how does it line up with his previous job? 

LA Knight reveals the origin of his catchphrase from his restaurant days

During the WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick, podcast LA Knight was the guest. They touched upon his catchphrase while talking about his time in the WWE. This is something that got Knight over with the fans. He talked about his momentum rise in the company and the origin of his much-loved catchphrases, “Yeah” and “Let me talk to ya.”

According to Knight, the catchphrase was something that he used to say. He said, “Nobody outside the PC knows this, “ which refers to when he was in WWE’s Performance Center in 2013. He said he would walk around and say ‘Everybody’ to everybody he met. Doing this, he saw that people would respond by saying it back to him. 

He went on to talk about his time in the restaurant business. He claimed that while he would go around the corner to avoid hitting anyone, he would say, “Everybody.” This was just a warning that he was passing through. This became his real-life catchphrase, as he would say it to everybody.

After he got signed on to the WWE, he thought if it was something he said in real life, why not incorporate it into his character? Turning something he said normally into a catchphrase was the best decision ever. Fans love the catchphrase and will chant it with his signature ‘Yeah!’

Knight’s Yeah movement and WWE popularity

The popularity of Knight cannot be denied. Many claim that he is significantly more popular than many of the main roster stars. But what got him this level of popularity of success in the WWE? Many claim his style and persona give them a nostalgic ‘Attitude Era’ vibe. From all his promos, it is evident that Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Steve Austin played a vital part in his character development. His character sounds and feels like a mash-up of the two.

He is currently one of WWE’s most popular and loved stars. The pop when his music hits has yet to fade. His popularity is so great now that fans are comparing him to WWE legend Randy Savage post the Slim Jim partnership. His merchandise sells like hotcakes, and when he turns the mic to the crowd, they erupt with his catchphrase.
