The world of pro wrestling is indeed filled with surprises. The fans witness those when they have the least expectations of them. However, this time the surprise was not from the WWE but from its Japanese rival, NJPW.

The Japanese wrestling promotion NJPW has a brand new head honcho! The breaking news coming from NJPW is that they have appointed former eight-time IWGP heavyweight champion Hiroshi Tanahashi as their brand-new president. On top of that, his actions will be effective as of December 23 of this year.

Just to let you know, the 47-year-old, has also won the New Japan Cup twice which was in 2005 and 2008, and is known as the fourth wrestler to accomplish NJPW’s triple crown. Now that he has become the president of such a big company, it will be interesting to see what direction NJPW takes under his guidance.

How and why did it all take place?

It was all decided after the meeting of their board directors and shareholders. Following this, it was announced that the 47-year-old will be the brand new head honcho of NJPW. Well, as per the official website of the Japanese promotion, it was all done because the company was thinking of making slight changes in the management. Interestingly, Tanahashi has been handed over with yet another responsibility in NJPW. He will also be a representative director after the 23rd of this month.

In case you didn’t know, Takami Ohbari and Michiaki Nishizawa will step down as President/Representative Director and Director, respectively. Tanahashi joined NJPW in 1999. The ‘Ace’ of NJPW was also a law student in his college days. Now, the company is going to organize a press conference on December 26 to convey these changes. It will be interesting to see if the 47-year-old becomes a part of that.
