Dwayne Johnson is a multi-faceted celebrity, going through many careers. His stardom is something that many athletes look up to and it is not only for the luxury and glamor but also for the hard work he has put into it. Among the long list of A-list celebrities, Johnson is one of a very few who are grounded. But what might have pushed DJ from the life of having a collection of million-dollar houses to making his own cookies at home?

If you ask the man himself, it’s his old teammate from his days playing football for the University of Miami. If you remember, the former WWE Champion had a different goal when he was in high school, to play in the NFL. This would, unfortunately, come crashing down, but would be instrumental in The Rock joining WWE.

But who was the teammate who would cause such a sudden shift in The Rock’s life? The Pro Football Hall of Fame Warren Sapp. Taking the place of the defensive position from Johnson, he launched his career in defensive tackling in the NFL. It would be a completely different universe if Dwayne Johnson was in the place of Warren Sapp.

While giving a speech to the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwayne Johnson said, “I played for the University of Miami, played great teams. Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis were my teammates. Warren Sapp was playing tight end at that time. I was starting defensive tackle. They moved him over to the D line and he looked at me and he said, ‘Dude, I’m gonna take your spot’. We battled, and he took my spot. Just imagine how that fuc*** with me cuz there goes my opportunity.

I had a pi**-poor senior year, zero production, no NFL, no combine invite… So always remember that what helps me is to keep the hard times in the front of my mind because it allows me to go into these big moments with a different perspective. What it also does for me is keep my back against this motherfu***** wall and when my back is against this motherfu***** wall, there’s nowhere else to go.
