If there is one moment that could explain the way wrestling changes people’s lives, it is the moment when Brock Lesnar broke The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak. There was a reaction from the audience that has never been repeated in WWE or in any other wrestling promotion. The silence of one of the biggest crowds in WWE history only signaled one thing; something big has occurred.

While this made Brock Lesnar one of the most disliked stars on the roster then, it also pushed Taker’s career in a new direction. We suddenly saw way more of The Deadman on our screens. And their SummerSlam match that happened in that year broke all the ceilings. It was as if Taker finally had taken off all of his inhibitions and just went for the kill.

On the popular podcast, Talk is Jericho, the former WWE Undisputed Champion, asked the legendary WWE ring announcer, Justin Roberts, about his biggest announcement. Roberts answered, “I’d say my biggest announcement in WWE was Brock [Lesnar] beating Taker for the streak. That was the biggest announcement I ever made that got the smallest reaction. My stomach dropped.

He continued, “I was just in doubt, and so it was very uncomfortable, and then I get a cue a minute later and I go, ‘The winner of this match, Brock Lesnar.’ And it was an uncomfortable announcement. Everybody, including myself — it was just disbelief.

It happened just like Roberts explained in the podcast, for the people in the arena and people watching WrestleMania 30 in their homes. When you go into any Undertaker WrestleMania match even pre-streak, you never expect him to lose. He had already beaten the likes of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Edge, and plenty of others before competing with Lesnar.
