The match between AJ Styles and Cody Rhodes for the WWE Universal title was an instant classic. Not only did two of the best in the business give us a banger, but the audience in Lyon, France, elevated the moment. The crowd was so wild for the match that even the cameras shook. However, one of the most talked about moments came when Rhodes pulled out a move from Brock Lesnar‘s arsenal.
As Michael Cole reminded the audience, Rhodes himself became the subject of the move. A move with rather deadly consequences.

During the match, Rhodes locked Styles in Brock Lesnar’s Kimura lock. The reason for using The Beast’s move was explained at the premiere of Rhodes’ documentary, The American Nightmare. He said, “My rule is, if I wrestle you more than five times, I can do all your stuff.” The WWE Undisputed Universal champion explained that he was like a sponge and liked to absorb the moves of wrestlers he’s feuded with. He did mention that people hated this rule of his. In professional wrestling, each wrestler has their style of wrestling. Be it grappling, submissions, or even strikes. However, according to the former AEW star, it’s fair to use the moves of wrestlers he’s had over five matches with.
Who does the kimura lock submission better, Cody Rhodes or Brock Lesnar?

However, there is a minor issue here: Rhodes and Lesnar have not locked horns five times. The duo have only had three matches between them. After Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, Lesnar emerged as a foil to him. The American Nightmare won the first bout at Backlash 2023 in front of a red-hot Puerto Rican crowd. The WWE Undisputed Universal champion used his quick thinking to counter the Kimura lock and pin Lesnar to attain a shock victory. However, he didn’t have the same luck in their second encounter in the same month.
The Beast picked up the win at Night of Champions after choking his opponent out with his signature submission. The final match would take place at SummerSlam, where Cody Rhodes would emerge triumphant to end the feud. If considered, the total is four, including the Men’s Royal Rumble 2023. Both men were in it, and Rhodes ended up winning. But it still isn’t five times according to Rhodes’ rule. Nevertheless, the former AEW star wouldn’t care too much as he tries to enhance his legacy by maintaining a formidable and long title reign. It’s not unreasonable to think that Cody Rhodes would use every weapon in his arsenal for that purpose. What do you make of the WWE star’s thoughts on borrowing from his opponents?
