Former WWE heel, Ryback recently opened up about how he wanted to take John Cena’s place. Before his debut with WWE, he underwent training in the developmental circuit. There, WWE sent John Cena to scout and inspire young talents. He further added that Cena challenged all of them and outlined his desire of having one star from the group to take up his spot in the future. “ I took that personally”, said Ryback.

He further added, “I made it my number one goal to go up there and to take John Cena’s spot and become the face of the WWE.” In 2013, Ryback had a heel turn and started feuding with John Cena, who was a prominent face at that time. They first went mano a mano at the no-contest Extreme Rules, which obviously Cena won. A month later at Payback, Cena defeated him again in a three Stages of Hell match and successfully defended his title.
