Veteran pro wrestler Dustin Rhodes, who worked under the moniker Goldust in WWE, took to social media to give an update about his mother’s health. The 3x WWE Intercontinental Champion also urged fans to pray for his ailing mother.
In an emotional note, which he posted on Facebook, the 53-year-old wrestler said his mother, Sandra Runnels, might not live long. Rhodes, a second-generation wrestler, said he wished he could take his mother’s place to alleviate her pain. “My momma doesn’t have long and as much as I try to prepare for, we never can,” the post read.

The update was swamped with reactions from concerned fans. While comforting the former WWE star, one Facebook user asked him to “Steal EVERY extra second with her”.
Another, who identified as Michael Svoboda, said that the wrestler and his family will always find support from him.
Commenting beneath the post, Jennifer McDiffitt, one of Dustin’s fans, wrote, “Thoughts and prayers for all. I’m very sorry you are all going through this.”
Runnels, who is the former wife of ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes, was admitted to the hospital earlier this year. In February, Dustin Rhodes informed about his mother’s condition through a tweet. On December 21, he shared two photos of himself with his mothers and requested fans to pray for his mother.
Dusty wasn’t happy with the Goldust gimmick initially
Dustin debuted the Goldust gimmick in 1995 at WWF ‘In Your House 4’. While it remains one of the most iconic WWE characters, it didn’t get the seal of approval from a legendary pro wrestler. Dustin’s own father Dusty wasn’t so sure about his son’s new look, initially.
In a 2019 interview with SI, the 6-foot-6-inches star recalled his father’s reaction after seeing his look for the first time. “The music hit, I came out, and Cody turned to Dad, who had this deer-in-the-headlights look, thinking, ‘What the hell is my son doing?’” he said.

‘The American Dream’ passed away in 2015, but not before seeing his elder son making a name for himself. Though he had his reservations, Dusty later was “proud” of his son, as revealed by Dustin himself.
Meanwhile, the former World Tag Team Champion also paid homage to his father in his post. He said it was hard for the family to lose Dusty as “everything stopped and was truly an awful thing to go through”.
