Since November 2021, Ali was not engaged in a storyline. Recently, Fightful reported that Mustafa Ali had backstage arguments with Vince McMahon. Last November, he was engaged in a storyline with a new gimmick that wasn’t appreciated by the fans. Eventually, WWE got negative comments on the storyline, consequently leading to its end.

In an interview, Mustafa Ali also revealed that he had a conversation with Vince McMahon. Why did WWE fail to push Mustafa Ali?
In 2016, Mustafa Ali debuted in the cruiserweight division in WWE. He was put into the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, where he faced his first loss against Lince Dorado in the first round. Right from his debut, Ali delivered significant performances in the cruiserweight division.
Ali is seen as a potential athlete with great high-flying moves that impressed the fans. His WrestleMania match with Cedric Alexander got appreciation from the 16-time Champion John Cena. In 2018, WWE moved Ali to the main roster on the blue brand. He got engaged in a feud with Daniel Bryan.
Ali’s main roster got a little push. Although WWE’s creative team tried many segments, they failed to manifest Ali. Moreover, Ali’s injury in 2019 led to a long period without an appearance, which also resulted in his downfall.
In recent months, WWE cut his last few storylines on the main roster because of less appreciation from the fans. In 2020, WWE involved him with some other superstars to engage him in an alliance called Retribution. Eventually, they tried to push Ali as the leader of Retribution, but they failed.
Mustafa Ali is one of the best high flyer athletes in the wrestling world. He has the potential to become a great wrestling personality with good mic skills and attitude. However, WWE failed every time to showcase it. It is quite clear that Ali is frustrated with the treatment he is receiving from WWE with continuous failed attempts and boring storylines.

This makes me sad, but they aren't using you, so you should be free to go do something more. Hope they grant your wish.
