Fans are fortunate to watch Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker squaring off in the ring to showcase their supremacy and class thanks to WWE. The competition between the two was one of the most popular in the company’s history due to the sort of conflict it showed between amazing might and frightful intensity.

However, their conflict did not begin in the WWE. It goes back to the days when Lesnar was destroying and ruling the UFC world. Unexpectedly, The Deadman challenged him to a battle inside the UFC octagon.

To give you some background, in 2010 at UFC 121, The Beast Incarnate competed against Cain Velasquez, who defeated Lesnar. The confrontation is particularly noted for Taker’s entrance into the arena and his hostile challenge to Lesnar during Ariel Helwani’s interview, when Taker said, “You want to do it? (Taker asked Lesnar)”

Following this, it became a subject of speculation why Taker was attempting to take on Lesnar. Many fans also believed that there was genuine animosity between the two icons. After 9 years, Taker finally responded to it.

The Undertaker explains his intentions for the challenge

In response to Helwani’s question, Taker finally discussed his mysterious challenge after more than 9 years in 2020. He stated, “I was there to pick a fight. Yeah, I was sent there personally to pick a fight. I was unaware that Dana had no clue what was gonna happen, which I felt horrible about after the fact. I thought there had been some kind of discussion between him and Vince.” 

Taker made it apparent that he was upset that the UFC president was unaware that McMahon had sent him to pick a fight. In addition, he clarifies and admits that his purpose in challenging Lesnar for the wrestling match was to overpower him in his previous career.

In his words, “At that time, Brock was so hot in the MMA world, so obviously, it’s like, ‘You know what? Why not try it? There was no personal animosity really, but it was basically me saying, ‘All right, you left our world, I’m gonna come into your world and I’m gonna call you out,’ and that was it.”

Brock Lesnar’s thoughts on the challenge

Later, after the infamous Taker challenge, Helwani questioned him about his opinions on it and inquired as to whether he and Taker actually had a beef. Lesnar replied in the affirmative saying, “It is legit. I got a problem with him.”

However, The Beast and Taker had patched things up when Lesnar switched from the UFC to the WWE, and as a result, their friendship grew and they became close.
