On the Sports Illustrated podcast with Jimmy Traina, Rhodes talked about his WrestleMania XL journey. Covering everything from winning the Royal Rumble to facing Reigns on Night #1 and #2. Near the end, however, he was asked about the gift he gave The Bloodline troupe. Reports had suggested that Rhodes gifted Reigns and Johnson Rolex watches after their match. The American Nightmare said, “I can’t confirm that I gave them one to Rock or Roman.” While giving a gift to a fellow wrestler isn’t a major topic, not revealing whether he did or did not spark the speculation that he did.

Moreover, he continued, “I think people probably go, Oh, I thought you did okay, my bad, can’t confirm. They might be right.” This may have been a slip-up by the former AEW star but it does sound like he gave Johnson a Rolex after their match. Throughout the interview, Cody Rhodes expressed his admiration for The Rock and what he’s done for the WWE. He even mentioned that the idea of gifting a Rolex came from the Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels match at Mania 24.

On the RAW after Mania, Dwayne Johnson handed something to Rhodes. Fan speculation from day one was that this was the watch. There is nothing more insulting than someone returning the gift you gave them. While he intended to show how much he respected Johnson by gifting him the Rolex, having it returned was a metaphorical slap in the face. This can go on to fuel their feud once The Brahma Bull returns. The most interesting part of all this is the fact that no one has revealed what was handed over. This could be the WWE’s way of making the hidden object something personal once the feud picks back up. What do you think about the WWE Universal champion’s line on the Rolex? Do you think he gifted it? Tell us in the comments.
