Hulk Hogan was by far the biggest superstar the wrestling world had ever seen in the 80s’. His fan following was such, he emerged as the face of the franchise, rebranding the WWE universe.
From his yellow and red t-shirts to his extravagant red and yellow scarf, fans sang praises of the Hulk and the Hulkamania was running wild. But given his ever-so-hungry nature, it comes as no surprise that Hogan wanted to go one-on-one with the greatest boxer of that time, Mike Tyson.

As someone who always meant business, Hogan had a great idea that would certainly have the sporting world up in a frenzy. Pitting two men who were at the top of their industry would not only make millions but also attract audiences from both sides of the ring. This proposition was amazing, but it never came to fruition. While the reason for the same remains unknown, Tyson did make several appearances for WWF/E and, in recent times, for AEW.

In addition to canceling this opportunity to face Hogan, Tyson also had to decline the chance to act as a referee for the match between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage. However, what remains a sheer loss for fans is the mouth-watering clash of the two titans.
Hulk Hogan pitches his idea for a match with Mike Tyson
In an interview that was found 30 years after its filming, Hulk Hogan and Mike Tyson meet backstage of the show for the first time. Hogan said regarding a match with Tyson, “We got something in common. We talked about this thing, you know. And everybody is interested. What would happen when Mike Tyson and Hulk Hogan would lock up… Once I get the WWF title and Mike Tyson gets a shot back at his title, we’re going to sit down and talk about this thing.”

“It’s gonna be a whole lot of different from when I got hold of Rocky Balboa. Picked him over my head, and threw him up out in the 100 seats in the bleachers. This thing with me and Tyson could get intense, and could you imagine? They could charge $20 million each for every TV set. Because everybody would wanna see who the real champion of the world is: Hulk Hogan or Mike Tyson? There have been several wrestling-boxing matches, but never at this level. If me and Tyson get it on, it’s going to be intense.”
