The latest edition of Raw saw Dominik Mysterio defend his NXT North American Championship against Sami Zayn. Although Kevin Owens was present on Raw, we did not see him compete. According to a new report, Kevin Owens is dealing with a legitimate injury. However, it’s unknown how and when Owens suffered the injury.

Owens and Sami Zayn last competed on last week’s edition of Raw and successfully defended their Undisputed Tag Team Championships against Dominik Mysterio and Damian Priest. But now that news about Owens’ injury has come to light, fans are concerned about the future of the Undisputed Tag Team Championships.

According to multiple reports, Kevin Owens seemingly suffered from a broken rib. On Raw, Owens was initially at ringside, rooting for Sami Zayn. However, the referee in charge later ejected him backstage. After Owens’ ejection from the match, the referee banned Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest’s presence from the ringside, making it a fair fight between Dirty Dom and Sami Zayn.

However, during the closing moments of the match, Kevin Owens was dragged to the entrance ramp by the Judgement Day members, causing a distraction for Zayn. At that moment, Dominik Mysterio, ever the opportunist, retained his NXT North American Championship via a schoolboy pin. This marks Dom’s first successful title defense since winning it on NXT last week.

Owens was then seen backstage, selling his injury. It is being reported that WWE is planning to capitalize on his legitimate injury to advance their storyline. Sean Ross Sapp has also confirmed that Kevin Owens’ injury is real.

At this point, it is unknown how much time it would take for Owens to get back in fighting shape. But a broken rib can easily take several weeks to heal.

It is also worth noting that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have nothing planned for SummerSlam. Nonetheless, fans are not happy about Kevin Owens’ hapless health condition.

The future of the Tag Team Championships hangs in balance

Kevin Owens had recently injured his leg on SmackDown while attempting a move during his encounter with Pretty Deadly. However, the injury was seemingly not anything serious, as Owens was able to resume wrestling.

By the look of how things went on Raw, Owens is expected to remain on the shelf for several weeks. That said, what could that mean for the future of the tag titles? Fans are concocting their own theories. While some fans are sad that Owens and Zayn might have to vacate the Tag championships, others think it’s for the best.

At this point, it’s unclear if Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn would be stripped of their Tag Team Championships.

Considering the fact that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are not scheduled for SummerSlam, it’s unlikely that WWE would forced them to vacate the Championships. KO could get better in the meantime.

Indeed it does! This is undeniably a major setback for Owens if the status of the injury is very severe. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see if Owens gets involved in any capacity on the go-home edition of Raw.
