“Like That Perfect Target Audience”: Cody Rhodes Explains Popular Sports Journalist Not Showing Him Love

Since his return to WWE last year, Cody Rhodes has become a megastar and a top babyface in WWE. Even though he jumped ship to WWE from AEW, The American Nightmare has received tremendous love from the fans and the company officials. But he recently shared not feeling the same love from a reputed sports journalist. As he heads to WrestleMania 39 to face Roman Reigns or Sami Zayn, the former AEW wrestler confronted reputed journalist Ariel Helwani for his lack of “love” towards him.

The American Nightmare clears his mind about Helwani

Recently, Rhodes appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. The host asked the 37-year-old about his comment about Helwani not liking Rhodes. 

The former two-time Intercontinental Champion recalled Helwani interviewing Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn. He shed light on how the sports journalist is familiar with the WWE business.

Rhodes said, “You are indoctrinated into it as far as WWE and you. You seem so excited about that challenger and I didn’t look at it in the sense he doesn’t show me love as much as (others).”

He added, “You’re like that perfect target audience for me in the sense that I know the ones who are ride or die. I’d never take him for granted. But I also think why he likes Drew so much, why does he like this guy so much? You just want to feel like the same.”

He focused on the point of how Helwani was “adamant” that The Scottish Psychopath will end The Tribal Chiefs’ reign. Moreover, as per Rhodes, the host thought McIntyre was the one. 

Also, he shared how this has been the story of Roman Reigns story for the past two years. He praised the Undisputed WWE Universal Title but also thought Reigns should have a new chapter now. After an emotional promo with Paul Heyman last week Rhodes wants to confront The Head of the Table as soon as possible.

Cody Rhodes on what he actually meant by his comments

The former AEW star also talked about what he meant by Helwani not loving him. He explained how his interviews help the superstars to raise the stake for their match.

The former ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes said, “You don’t want to put a guy on the pedestal that it psychs you out. I mean, from a competitive and performance standpoint, and that’s what I meant. You seem very much behind the current challenger.”

The former TNT Champion is ready to have a world title match at WrestleMania 39. The RAW after Elimination Chamber will tell who will have a match against Rhodes at the grandest stage of all.
