The history of the XFL
Starting in 2001, Vince started the XFL with NBC to go against the NFL, the major American Football league. While the league closed after only one season in 2001, it was reopened in 2019. But this would be a failing attempt as, after it ran for five weeks, the pandemic shook the sports industry to its core. Not only did the XFL close, but so did WWE and many other sports organizations.
And just a month later, XFL filed for bankruptcy. While the major television companies agreed to broadcast the XFL, they wanted to do so under new leadership. And then came Dwayne Johnson and his wife, who along with RedBird Capital Partners own the XFL right now.
