WrestleMania 39 was rumored to witness the return of Dwayne The Rock Johnson and set up a confrontation with his cousin Roman Reigns for the marquee main event. In the end, the plan didn’t come to fruition as The People’s Champ deemed he wasn’t in shape to compete. While it didn’t happen in Hollywood, there’s always a chance for next year.

However, the latest report about The Brahma Bull’s future has garnered angry reviews from fans.

WrestleMania 40 will take place at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia between April 6 and 7, 2024. If the $800 million superstar’s absence from SoFi Stadium in Hollywood was hard for fans, reports pertaining to his future have dealt a hard blow to the faithful.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Johnson left a crack in the door when he turned down WrestleMania 39. The senior journalist, however, said one shouldn’t count on it.

“Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening,” Meltzer said.

Reacting to the report, fans have turned against The People’s Champ and took to Twitter to vent their anger.

One fan stated his disappointment.

Some fans expressed their dissatisfaction with The Rock’s commitment to the WWE.

One fan urged the WWE universe to let The Rock make his comeback on his own terms.

One cannot blame the fans, as not just one, but two instances might have heightened their interest in The Rock’s return.

Dwayne Johnson himself teased his WrestleMania 39 return

Hours before The Tribal Chief faced Cody Rhodes inside the ring during their main event match at WrestleMania 39, Johnson dropped a video from his gym, where he teased a potential return to ‘The Showcase of the Immortals’.

The Brahma Bull said he was excited about the match and, as usual, urged his Anoa’i bloodline to “Kick a**”.

“Electrify SoFi stadium. Do what you do. It is in our blood,” the wrestler-turned-actor said. However, Johnson dropped the bomb while ending the video. “And who knows, maybe, just maybe down the road I will see you in person. I will leave it at just that.”

Even though it built up suspense, Dwayne Johnson was nowhere to be seen at WrestleMania 39.

Another instance that got fans hyped up was when the WWE announced Kevin Hart as its ‘Mania host. Hart is a long-time collaborator with Dwayne Johnson. Naturally, this had the fans excited.
