In the 2000s, Kurt Angle was a big name in WWE. So when he left the company in 2006, the WWE Universe went into shock. Around that time, he was juggling between the Stamford-based promotion, TNA, and the Olympics. He tried to push himself to do more, but a human body can only handle a limited amount of pressure.

He had a lot on his plate, as he was constantly doing WWE shows. Plus, his Olympics training was also taking a massive toll on his body. All the physical and mental injuries forced him to quit WWE. He then joined TNA in the same year, hoping to receive less work pressure in the company.

But, even after two years, his body was in no shape to compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics tryouts. Therefore, he had to miss the trials.

Kurt Angle regrets overworking

In the #119 edition of the Kurt Angle show, co-host Paul Bromwell asked Angle how close he was to being Olympic-ready in 2006. The WWE Hall of Famer replied by saying that he was not even close. He tried to overcome his injuries, but his body had burned out.

He said, My biggest mistake was I tried to wrestle for TNA while I was training for the Olympics. There is no way that was going to happen. I tried to make it happen, but it was just too much for me. I was training my a** off for four hours a day at home, going on the road, and wrestling for TNA, 3 or 4 or 5 days a week. It was just too much for my body to take.”

‘King Kurt’ is an Olympian wrestler and his love for the sport is well-known among the fans. Despite his wish to compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he wasn’t able to do so. But he mentioned how things may have turned out in his favor if he had done something differently.

“So I got injured so much that I had to quit, but if I would have taken time off like I was planning to in WWE back in 2002, to get ready for the Olympics in 2004. If I would have taken time off, I believe I would have done pretty well,” he continued.
