In his legendary pro wrestling career, Kurt Angle faced several wrestlers. Some of them were big names in the business, while others remained names that didn’t become popular. The latter scenario happens with many wrestling stars, as not everyone could take their name to the top. However, Angle recently shared one such story about a former WWE star.

It is no secret that Angle’s Olympic hero gimmick was well-received by the WWE Universe. Even the legend once opened up about it. Since his in-ring debut in 1999 at Survivor Series against Shawn Stasiak, fans liked him. But what about Stasiak? Do we know how and why his career derailed despite being more experienced than Angle?

Speaking on his The Kurt Angle Show podcast, the WWE legend himself shared an interesting story about his first-ever opponent in the promotion.

He said, “I hate to say this, but I have to let the cat out of the bag. Shawn was losing his hair just like I was. He decided to get a hair replacement surgery and it was a week before he was called up.”

When the promotion asked him to come, Shawn Stasiak told them that he cannot be called right now as he was getting his hair done. To this the people from WWE replied with okay and that they will take care of him.

Adding to this, the Wrestling Machine also mentioned how he feels recalling this stuff and thinking that this might have affected Stasiak’s career a bit.

He also said, “I think that painted him in a corner where, okay, this guy’s not going to be a team player.

This short anecdote that Angle narrated not only tells the story of how the former WWF Hardcore Champion’s career derailed, but how things can go upside down for any wrestler.

On his first run, he was Stasiak was fired by Vince McMahon. However, on his second run with WWE starting in 2001, he himself requested his release.

Angle also had his moments in WWE where he struggled at times and was left embarrassed.

The Olympic gold medalist opened up about his match in SummerSlam 2000

The Hall of Fame legend revealed an unknown story from his match in SummerSlam 2000. It was one of the most memorable matches of WWE’s history but wasn’t a pleasant one for Angle, as he suffered a severe concussion.

In his podcast, Angle opened up on how Stephanie McMahon asked him to return to the ring and finish the match.

Angle said, “When I went to the back, they brought me back out there to finish the match. And I walked out with Stephanie. And he said that I asked her, ‘Hey, what do I do when I get to the ring.’ She said, ‘I’ll tell you.’” This, however, left Angle waiting for instructions from Stephanie as he was at a loss about what to do in the match due to his concussion.

Angle had little idea about what was going on in the match. However, after what happened in SummerSlam 2000 between Triple H, Kurt Angle, and The Rock, the Olympic Gold Medalist believes that it gave rise to a WWE campaign. To be precise, he meant the “Don’t try this at home” campaign initiated by WWE.
