Rey Mysterio went up against Kurt Angle and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 22 in 2006. He defeated both of them in a triple threat match to become the World Heavyweight Champion.
During an episode of The Kurt Angle Show, Angle reflected on the moment when Mysterio secured the victory. Now, many believe that WWE exploited Eddie Guerrero’s death to make Rey Mysterio the champion.

However, Kurt Angle believes otherwise. He doesn’t think WWE exploited it, but it was a great way to honour Guerrero’s memory.
“I thought it was done in great taste. I mean, to have Rey Mysterio, Eddie’s best friend, win the world title in Eddie’s memory, I thought that was an awesome moment. And, I don’t see why anybody would be upset about that.” H/t The Kurt Angle Show
Initially, the idea was to have Orton vs Angle at WrestleMania 22. However, Mysterio entered the Royal Rumble 2006 men’s match and eliminated Orton to secure the victory. This gave him the chance to challenge the champion.
Interestingly, this was the same Rumble where Mysterio acquired a Royal Rumble record by becoming the Superstar who stayed in the ring for the longest time in a single Royal Rumble match.

Kurt Angle’s last WWE appearance was at WrestleMania 35 where he lost against Baron Corbin. But, Angle always wanted John Cena to retire him since he started Cena’s career.
He had approached WWE about the same but never heard back from them. Moreover, he doesn’t know if WWE turned down the idea or John Cena did. In fact, when he met Cena at WrestleMania 35, Cena told him it couldn’t happen but never actually told him why.
