Pro wrestling has changed drastically over the years. From inside the ring to the backstage activities, we all have witnessed more or less changes in certain aspects of the business. When asked about it, some fans prefer modern-era wrestling, while others are fond of old-school wrestling.

WWE legend Kurt Angle falls in the latter category. In a recent interview, he showcased his love for old-school wrestling. He gave some pointers on how modern-era pro wrestling can do better by learning from old-school pro wrestling.

In Kurt Angle Show #115, Paul Bromwell asked Angle what are some of the things he would take away from pro wrestling today. He stated that wrestling promotions, in the present, can do a better job while selling their storylines. He said that nowadays promotions can’t sell as much as they would in the past.

The obvious reason for this is that both baby faces and heels are given equal attention. “These are simple ways of doing it and the thing is now we got complicated. Now you don’t know who the baby face is, or the heel is,” he said. He wants the companies to put more effort into highlighting the baby face rather than the heels in the storyline.

He also talked about what are the things he would like to keep in modern-era wrestling style.

Angle wants pro wrestling to go back to being basic

During the interview, he stated that modern-era wrestling consists of high-flying actions and acrobatics which he likes. He believes that these should stay as they are good for business because fans seem to like and enjoy them.

“Pro wrestling today is a lot different. It’s a lot more high action, a little more highflying, lot of acrobatics,” he stated.

Angle further continued by saying, I understand it’s what fans want right now, is the high-flying, high-action kind of wrestling which I totally understand, but eventually someday they’re going to have to get back to it.”

‘King Kurt’ believes that businesses would have to adopt the old style eventually as the basicness is the true art of the sport. Being an Olympic star and a gold medalist, he is a fan of chain wrestling. He suggested incorporating this wrestling style in the matches would turn out to be a huge plus point.
