Kurt Angle details how the WrestleMania match with Shawn Michaels came to be
Angle versus Michaels from WrestleMania 21 was the topic of discussion of the latest edition of The Kurt Angle Show. During the podcast, Angle detailed how WWE came up with the idea to have him and Michaels wrestle each other.

He said, “It wasn’t the main event, but it was a feature match.”
Angle then explained why WWE came up with the match, and how they made it work despite him and Shawn Michaels being on different brands.
“They came up with a great concept to start at the Royal Rumble, and it went from there.”
Angle and Michaels’ rivalry began at the 2005 Royal Rumble. Angle entered the match and cleaned the house in a truly dominating fashion. Sadly, it didn’t last long as ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ hit Angle with a Sweet Chin Music and eliminated him. And guess what? All this happened in just a minute or two!
Who came up with the idea of Angle vs Michaels at WrestleMania?
The ‘American Hero’ was also asked if it was his, Shawn’s, or WWE’s idea to have them face each other. Angle revealed it was the decision of WWE creative. They thought it’d be a great dream match as both men weren’t into the World Title picture going into Mania.

“I think people in creative just said, ‘Hey, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels have not wrestled. They’ve never locked up, never touched. This would be a dream match for the fans, so let’s get a program started and let’s go into WrestleMania.'” He continued, “We were open, so it was the right time. It was the perfect timing.”

Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels had one of the best WrestleMania matches of the decade. Both men put on a terrific performance at the ‘Show of Shows’ and also the weekly shows that preceded it. Everything from ‘Sexy Kurt’ to the final tap out to the Ankle Lock had us invested.
