The moment in reference happened during the last few days of Cody Rhodes’ stay at AEW, the very promotion he helped Tony Khan build. While Rhodes was discussing his new contract with WWE amidst the rumors of a return, he was also working as Fuego Del Sol’s tag partner and his newly recruited apprentice, but under the disguise of a mask. As per Del Sol, Cody Rhodes was delivering too many promos during the ending stage of his AEW career. Hence, he was missing out on in-ring action. So to get in ring shape, Rhodes decided to team up with the masked high-flyer. He said, “It was really just a way for Fuego II to stay in ring shape. He felt like he was cutting too many promos on TV.”
He further revealed how Rhodes’ presence and sudden absence from AEW affected his performance during Tony Khan’s promotion. Del Sol said, “It was great for me because it guaranteed me to be on TV every week.” Del Sol further said, “When Cody leaves, I don’t have that guarantee to be at the TV every week, it slowly hurt my standing within AEW.”
