It’s safe to bet that Dwayne Johnson is one of the most disciplined human beings on the planet. He may be built like his namesake “rock” but inside that hardshell there is a soft side. Make no mistake, Johnson is just as strong emotionally as he is physically and mentally. But he has an interesting and uplifting way of dealing with grief.

A perfect example of that statement would be when Dwayne Johnson did an interview with Oprah Winfrey just ten days after the death of his father, the WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson. Although The Rock did the interview holding his tears back, his fans felt every bit of the pangs of sorrow that he was going through.

Generally, the pain from the loss of a loved one feels like it’s the end of our world. In some cases, people even go off the deep end. However, Dwayne Johnson’s positive outlook on the natural cycle of life teaches his fans an invaluable lesson.

Let’s not forget, Dwayne Johnson has been vocal about his “complicated” relationship with the late great Rocky Johnson. A young Dwayne was brought up with tough love. Many people can relate and speak to that kind of upbringing. However, while some turn bitter, others accept and change their lives for the better.

Just ten days after losing his father, Dwayne Johnson appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s Vision Tour of Visionaries. The moment Johnson settled in his seat, Winfrey pointed out that she wasn’t sure that he’d do the interview, considering how hard and challenging his week would have been.

Dwayne Johnson then relayed how hard the past couple of days were. He said, “It has been a challenging past couple of days. My father, he passed away on January 15th and we just buried him a few days ago. And… you know, as we all go through this, we all go through our own process of grieving and regret and all these things and emotions that we go through and but again, it’s the cycle of life and it’s beautiful and it’s painful, it’s amazing, it’s incredible.”

As subdued as Johnson looked, he was also very reflective. At some point during the interview, a bereaved Johnson admitted that he “needed” to share his story with the audience to feel better. Furthermore, he thanked the audience for their support. He added, “Especially this week… just… you know, laying my dad to rest, I needed this from you and I thank you truly.”

We all have our spats within the family. It’s inevitable. It’s what makes us family. However, it is important to repair the relationship as life is too fragile and short to hold a grudge against our loved ones.

In his Instagram post, Johnson revealed that he wished his father was around to get his wish from his son on Father’s Day. Johnson added that he carries the regret of not finding an opportunity to say goodbye to his dad before his passing.

He relayed that Rocky Johnson and he had a “fight” just months before the former left the world. He said, “Unfortunately, we got in a fight about a month earlier and I never reconciled with him or even had a chance to say goodbye.”
