WWE honoring Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles—are they the most influential athletes of our time?

WWE stars know how to pay tribute to sports legends. On the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, the top three women of the division decided to pay tribute to some of the big names from the Paris Olympics. These would be Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles, who represented Team USA in the Gymnastics division. The Big Three, including Jade Cargill, Naomi, and Bianca Belair, decided to match their attire in a tribute that went unnoticed by the non-eagle-eyed fans.

All three ladies wore something that matched Team USA’s uniform at the 2024 Olympics. Naomi was in black, Cargill was in red, and Belair wore the US flag colors. This was a brilliant sight to see, and fans who noticed the tribute couldn’t stop raving about it on social media.

On the show, the ladies faced The Unholy Union and Blair Davenport. The trio also won the match, with Naomi winning the pinfall against Davenport. This was a much-needed victory after her loss in her hometown last week.

Social media was buzzing with the above image being shared. Fans were shocked that this tribute wasn’t noticed, and even the announcement team didn’t mention it. However, the ladies often don’t announce who their outfit is referencing or tributing to, and they let the fans discover it for themselves. This was a great moment for the top women in the WWE to acknowledge the top woman representing the USA at the Olympics. Unfortunately, the trio will be splitting up soon.

Simone Biles and the Olympics didn’t hurt the WWE’s numbers like AEW

On the topic of the Olympics, the sports event aired at the same time as RAW and SmackDown, but WWE was able to stay consistent with their views. However, the same did not happen for AEW. Tony Khan’s show suffered with a record-low drop in viewership numbers. This came at a rather inappropriate time as the company is trying to close a media rights deal with Warner Brothers Discovery.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer also mentioned that both AEW Dynamite and Collision suffered viewership losses due to the Olympics, while WWE didn’t. The numbers for the Stamford-based company did see a drop on specific dates, but it wasn’t as bad as AEW. With All In around the corner, this doesn’t bode well with the people looking to air the show on their network.
