The Miz is hands down one of the greatest heels in the WWE. Over the years, the ‘A-Lister’ has only added accolades to his name, including becoming WWE Champion and headlining WrestleMania! However, before he could main event the ‘Show of Shows,’ there was a lot to learn. Surprisingly, it was his rival John Cena he learned the most from.
The Miz made his way to the WWE after Tough Enough and debuted on SmackDown in 2006. After being in the business for a few years, the young, cocky heel became the ‘Awesome‘ one. While The Miz was climbing up the ranks winning championships, there was still a lot to learn before his leap to the main event.

John Cena – the little-known teacher of The Miz
In an excerpt from his WWE 24 documentary, The Miz shares how he learnt a lot from John Cena as they wrestled often during house shows in 2009 and 2010. He said, “Once you get into WWE, it takes time to develop confidence, to be at a level in which you need to be, and sometimes you think you’re there but you’re not.”
He continued, “I didn’t realize I wasn’t there until I started wrestling John Cena. John Cena taught me more than I could ever imagine. I remember going on live events and learning from John Cena. He taught me what it takes to be the caliber of superstar I needed to be to be WWE Champion.” H/t Sportskeeda.
Working with John Cena and learning from him definitely worked big time for The Miz. He worked tirelessly to hone his skills and get to a level where he could work a main event program with Cena or anyone else.
Plus, do you think it was a coincidence The Miz defended the WWE Championship against Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXVII? We believe it definitely was an endorsement from Cena for Miz’s hardwork and improvement over the years.
