While WWE was also a hard start for John Cena, the Champ did make it big in the billion-dollar sports entertainment company. But things weren’t the same in Hollywood. With the Marines being his first film in 2006, Cena had an early start, but he quickly returned. Skip to less than a decade later, and Cena appears in one or two movies in a year. But that is not how it ends.

The 16-time Champion was first typecasted into action hero roles as he was a former wrestler, but that didn’t work. It wasn’t until a series of comedy movies displaying his comic relief skills that Cena got better roles. Fast forward to 2021 and Cena stars in one of the best comedy\action movies of the year, The Suicide Squad. This also led to Cena starring in his own HBO Max series, which fans loved every single part of. But some people still criticize his comedy skills, and one of his Hollywood buddies is one of them.

While talking about the movie Sisters, Jimmy Fallon talks about John Cena’s performance in the movie. He says, “I didn’t expect you to be funny!” Then John Cena stands up and moves to the last chair on stage. Fallon exclaims, “John, I’m kidding.” After that, the two do a dramatic roleplay and end the segment by hugging each other.

If this was another time, Cena would not have gotten the Suicide Squad role. For years now, wrestlers have been typecasted into action roles but the modern generation is changing that. While Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and even Triple H started their movie careers but failed miserably, Dwayne Johnson succeeded. Seeing his enormous success, Dave Batista also tried his hands at acting and found his own success.

And now John Cena has followed in the footsteps of these two great wrestlers. While it might seem like Cena just arrived on the scene, he has been continuously getting roles in movies since 2015. Sisters and Trainwreck were two movies that showcased his comedy chops. But this is not the end for Cena, the man is projected to be a big part of the DCEU and other projects in the future.
