John Cena and Nikki Bella’s relationship dynamic made for some exciting and tension-filled drama on reality TV. WWE’s former power couple first appeared on the Total Divas reality show, before The Bella Twins got their own show, Total Bellas in 2016. One of the interesting parts of both shows was Cena’s obsession with his set of rules around his house. In fact, he made Nikki Bella sign a contract before she moved in with him.

During the first season of Total Bellas, as Nikki was preparing to undergo surgery for her injured neck, she told Cena that her family wants to move in with them to take care of her. Cena allowed Nikki’s family, including her sister Brie Bella, to move in with them. But with that came a list of rules. During a tense family dinner, ‘The Doctor of Thuganomics’ explained all the strict rules they had to follow during their stay in his house. So in 2018, when Brie Bella expressed a wish to move to San Diego to join her sister and Cena, their family was again worried about having to walk around eggshells in the house.

John Cena explained ‘new rules’ to Nikki Bella’s family

In 2018, John Cena got engaged to Nikki Bella after he proposed to her at WrestleMania 34. Soon after the newly engaged couple moved into a new house in San Diego. Her husband former WWE stars Daniel Bryan was reluctant before he gave in. Brie herself was wary of Cena’s ‘ house rules’ having experienced them in 2016.

So when Brie Bella and the rest of her family moved into Cena’s San Diego house in the third season of Total Bellas they were ready for another barrage of rules coming their way. During a formal dinner, Cena explained the new rules to her fiance’s family.

With everyone looking tense, ‘The Franchise Player’ displayed a rather softer side of his personality. Cena said he “hammered” them last time and “lay down the law” with the rules around his house only because he was proud of what he built. He explained he wanted them to keep its “integrity”, but things have changed now.

In a dramatic twist, Cena stated, “This place has a different feel. It feels like home. So walking in with your shoes on, that’s ok. So is spilling a drink. The Champ further said the reason he wanted to have a formal dinner in the first place was that his own family rarely gets together.

He further said, “We all have a way of gravitating toward each other. And I think the most important thing is our togetherness and happiness.” Cena then raised a toast to “no rules,” as the rest of the family joined in. Perhaps it was Cena’s engagement with Nikki Bella and his feeling closer to her that made him relax his rules.

This was one of the rare instances where Cena was relaxed about his infamous rules. He was willing to accommodate other people in the house and make them feel comfortable. Despite these changes, the Peacemaker star had to separate from Nikki Bella. They went their separate ways in the same year, weeks before their marriage, due to disagreements over starting a family.
