WWE has been embroiled in scandals throughout its existence, but the last few years have become especially hard with Janel Grant’s lawsuit against the company, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis for abuse of power and sexual harassment. Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon in January 2024. The former WWE employee detailed some lurid events that happened during the years 2019 and 2022. And that involved John Laurinaitis, among other WWE staffers.
Janel Grant’s complaint surprised many within WWE. The scandal spread so quickly through the press that it caused some sponsors to get off the WWE ship, as happened with Slim Jim, an action that led to the resignation of Vince McMahon from his position as CEO of TKO. And now it has also caught WWE Superstar John Cena in the crossfire. He has been called out by fans for refusing to answer a question regarding the legal issue.
The 16x World Champion was a part of the 2024 edition of Money in the Bank, where he announced his plans to retire in 2025, with WrestleMania 41 being his last-ever in the promotion. The moment shocked many, and they couldn’t help but wait for him to share more details in the post-event media appearance. And there, though Cena tackled many easy questions while also taking a jibe at CM Punk, there was one question he completely dodged. It was the one regarding the Vince McMahon legal case. And now, the WWE Universe is up in arms against Super Cena for doing so.

John Cena faces severe backlash from fans
Trying to avoid answering the question, Cena said, “Surely an uncomfortable question, and man, I really would much rather talk about what’s ahead of us, and that’s really important. “I’ve been pretty honest with my opinion to answer that question, and if you didn’t see it, I know you can dig it up somewhere. I think we’re on the precipice of something pretty special, and as the business evolves and continues to evolve, damn, it’s in pretty good hands with the TKO folks. So I am happy to be where I’m at. Again, I think if you want that information, you dig hard enough, you can find it. Thank you, though. Appreciate the courage.”

As soon as the moment was seen by the fans, they were quick to call out the 16x champion who preaches, “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect.” And what made it funnier was the fact that Cena himself told the reporters that “nothing’s off-limits” when it came to his media appearance and the WWE.

John Cena trying to sell this as an authentic press conference, totally dodging the first question about Vince McMahon and then immediately telling reporters “nothing’s off-limits” has been an incredible sequence.

John Pollock asking John Cena about Vince McMahon. Cena calls it "an uncomfortable question" and would 'much rather talk about what's ahead of us." Ah, the HHH stratagem.

Bro asked John Cena about Vince and he basically gave a "that's the past, I ain't talking about that shit" answer in the most corporate voice possible pic.twitter.com/uk15LP3FMK

In fact, the way he dodged it gave many secondhand embarrassment as they called him out.
Cena ducking the Vince McMahon question. Yikes.

John Cena got cocky and pushed to take extra questions, got hit by a Vince one and he ran from it.

Well, it sure looks like it would’ve been better if Cena just bit the bullet here. However, it’s too late for him now to avoid the trolling. But rest assured, he will still remain a future WWE Hall of Famer. One that would even be missed by his trolls due to the legacy he created by carrying the company on his back for years.
