He is not only an icon of the company and a role model to children, but his legacy is something others dream about. Debuting in 2002, he evolved as the company grew and improved himself with time. After he dominated WWE for over a decade, he took his talents to Hollywood and has made sporadic appearances for WWE since. But why is he back for Fastlane now?

After joining Hollywood like Dwayne Johnson, Cena would occasionally appear at WrestleMania. However, he has a match scheduled for Fastlane. Cena explains why this return means so much to him.

John Cena believes he’s still got time, but not as much as others

John Cena has been part of the pro wrestling industry for over two decades now. During his time, he achieved a ton of fans and was the face of the company. Despite being 46 years old and having a booming Hollywood career, Cena is back in the squared circle for a match at Fastlane 2023 against The Bloodline. When asked why he was back, he had an exciting answer.

On the October 4, 2023, WWE’s The Bump episode, Cena sat down to discuss his return and much more. When asked why he returned to the WWE, he said, “Selfishly, I wanna make sure it’s not time to go yet.” This is a nod to WWE stars surpassing their stay in the squared circle. Cena explained that he was confident that his time was not yet up. Cena claimed that he still had it in him to continue to wrestle. However, he did add, “I pull no punches, I don’t exist without the audience. And I’m just really grateful.” Cena has always been grateful for the fans accepting him and loving him during his time in the WWE.

Cena explained how many wrestlers do not get the chance to thank the fans for the love and admiration they receive. He claimed that he’s wanted to thank the fans for a long time, and this could be his chance.

Cena and LA Knight face The Bloodline at Fastlane 2023

As soon as Cena returned to SmackDown, he was up against The Bloodline. With the absence of Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa took it upon themselves to teach Cena a lesson. A match was set for Fastlane 2023, but before the contract signing, the duo took out AJ Styles, who was Cena’s partner.

This left Cena in a handicap match against The Bloodline. However, a returning LA Knight came to Cena’s aid and signed the contract, effectively becoming Cena’s tag partner.
