Did WWE drop the ball by not airing Gunther's 'Bash in Berlin' on a major show?

WWE is working on the card for its upcoming premium Bash in Berlin event. The company has confirmed two title matches, highlighting the showdown between The Viper Randy Orton and Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The reason for this rematch? Because of what they both had in the final of the King of the Ring tournament held in Saudi Arabia in May. And it is expected to be a truly physical encounter!

In order to promote the fight, Gunther and Randy Orton have been interviewed by various media outlets in recent days. Especially Randy Orton, who has spoken about all kinds of topics in different media. In an interview with DailyMail, ‘The Viper’ recalled that he has not maintained a PLE for a long time, and he is confident that this will happen in Bash in Berlin.

But what if we tell you that the internet wrestling community is not highly interested in this match being the main event? Forget the main event; it seems like they are not interested in seeing the two square off in the first place. It seems like they had a different dream match in mind. One that they have definitely been waiting to see.

So who is the mystery opponent? Well, it’s none other than Ilja Dragunov. Dragunov and Gunther had a classic back in NXT and have been a highlight machine whenever pitted against one another due to their technical style of wrestling that perfectly complements each other. So it was no wonder that when the WWE booked them for a live event match in the Netherlands, they gave a performance that the promotion couldn’t help but promote on their social media.

However, a non-televised match was definitely not something that the fans wanted to see. Instead, it should’ve been one that would have been aired on TV. One that has high stakes for the matchup. So fans online soon took to social media to reveal that it was Dragunov vs. Gunther that they wanted for Bash in Berlin.

Fans root for the underdog vs. Goliath again

Have an interesting take?

As soon as the video hit the internet, fans couldn’t help but be in awe of the spectacle they were getting to see. The two technical wrestling maestros were truly in sync, delivering a matchup that perfectly defines what real pro wrestling is. So when they think of the fact that it was just a non-televised match but not in a WWE PLE, fans really feel compelled to let their thoughts be known. Many stated that this should’ve been the match set up for Bash in Berlin.

Some fans believed that the pair were so good, they should’ve been booked for WrestleMania instead. Their ability to deliver 5-star rated matches surely can help elevate the future editions of the Showcase of the Immortals. Especially when the WWE had lackluster matches in the previous edition, such as the one between Jimmy and Jey Uso.
