The rivalry between two-time WWE Hall of Famer, Hulk Hogan, and the inaugural WWE Hall of Famer, André the Giant, is one for the ages. Both the superstars were insanely popular back in the late 70s and the 80s.

Whenever the two larger-than-life characters stood inside the squared circle, the fans would lose their minds. The same thing happened when WWE booked one of the biggest main events of all time at WrestleMania III. The main event featured the match between Goliath vs Goliath: Hulk Hogan vs André the Giant.

However, the buildup to the match was something that made the match that night the biggest spectacle in the history of pro-wrestling. Hogan was on the top of the mountain at that time and there was no one who could bring the Hulkster down.

Eventually, André appeared, while Hogan was the guest on Piper’s Pit. However, this time André came alongside the heel manager, Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan, seeing this Hogan just lost his mind.

This was the first time in his illustrious career when André turned heel, and during that segment, the legendary wrestler challenged Hogan for his title at ‘Mania III. However, before leaving, André tore Hogan’s shirt and, along with it, he ripped out the cross that the Hulkster was wearing.

Interestingly, the cross wasn’t supposed to come off. However, it added a more dramatic sense to the segment as Hogan’s chest started to bleed.

The epic contract signing between Hulk Hogan and André the Giant

Just before their eventual bout at WrestleMania III, both wrestlers sat down across the table to sign the contract for the match. During the signing, Hogan looked absolutely furious.

The main reason why ‘The Immortal’ was mad at André was that he joined hands with heel manager Bobby Heenan. During the segment, Hogan noted that he respected him and he shouldn’t have joined hands with him.

However, there was one moment during the segment when Hogan got emotional and said that “It’s not signed in ink, it’s signed in blood” referring to the incident when André broke his cross.

Eventually, the two legends met at WrestleMania III where Hogan defeated the heel, André. According to WWE, this was Andre’s first loss in 15 years of his wrestling career.

This rivalry of these wrestlers will always be remembered. Decades and decades will pass by, but this match won’t be forgotten.
