Dwayne Johnson has made his name as one of the staple Hollywood action stars in the industry. Due to his physique and his history as a pro wrestler, he moves unbelievably smoothly on screen when he is acting. However, despite coming from a combat sports background, he does not get to do all of his stunts. This is due to the fact that producers don’t want to risk his safety. But while promoting his superhero flick Black Adam he had expressed his desire to be a true action star like other actors by performing all of his stunts.

Johnson wants to perform his own stunts

Last year in a conversation with Graham Norton on The Graham Norton Show, Hollywood’s favorite superstar was asked whether he is one of those people who like to do his own stunts. To this question, Johnson candidly replied, “I’d like to yeah”, stating his desire to do every stunt in his movies. 

He further said, “I’d like to do a good amount of stunts because stunts are fun and you know they are cool,” showing to the audience that he is indeed an adrenaline junkie.

Later he clarified the motivation behind this desire. “But more so it’s not really an ego thing it’s more so the audience knows I would rather tie myself into all the action, uh so they’re able to see”, implying that the People’s Champion will go to any extent to treat his audience with the best entertainment.

Johnson made his debut as the lead in the Scorpion King movie and starred in many others. But his role as Luke Hobbs in Fast and Furious franchise made him a household action movie star.

Despite having a stunt double for almost 20 years now, directors and producers don’t want to take risks with his safety. Due to this sometimes they even end up allotting absurd amounts of stunt doubles for him.

Johnson’s ‘army’ of stunt doubles

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt once appeared on WIRED‘s YouTube channel. They were promoting their Disney movie The Jungle Cruise and took on ‘The Web’s Most Searched Questions.’ One of the questions was about how many stunt doubles Dwayne Johnson has. Emily Blunt jokingly said that he had never done a stunt in his life.

Although, Johnson did fulfill this wish of his for one of his movies. In the 2015 movie San Andreas, the director asked Dwayne Johnson to do his own stunts. The director wanted the film to feel real and show Johnson’s face during the stunts, even though they were very risky.

Johnson agreed to it, despite the danger. During one stunt, even the director got scared as ‘The Brahma Bull’ performed the stunt and scared the director.
