Jim Ross gives his opinion on why Stone Cold Steve Austin refused a match with Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan returned to WWE as a part of his legendary team, nWo. The return happen after a long time as Hogan was a part of WCW and gave competition to WWE in Monday Night Wars.

When The Hulkster returned, he started singles run within 2 months and feuded with Triple H, The Undertaker, etc. The fans wanted to see Hogan feud with Austin after his match with The Rock at WrestleMania 18. However, Austin refused the match with Hulk Hogan. Jim Ross in his podcast Grilling Jr. episode 164 Judgement Day 2002 gave an insight into why Austin refused.

Ross said, “Austin didn’t have the match with Hogan because he didn’t want to have the match the Undertaker did. Hogan was battered, beat up, multiple back surgeries. It’s funny when people say ‘What’s the really important things to learn in pro wrestling training?’ Well, you’ve got to learn to take a great flatback bump because about 98% of the stuff you see ends with a flatback bump.”

He added, “So being able to execute a flatback bump, which sounds very simple, and it is, but a lot of guys spend no time on it, they’d rather spend more time on Tope Suicidas and sh*t like that than how to sell or how to take a flatback.”
