WWE is in no mood to dial down the paranoia regarding the Edge and Randy Orton match at Backlash. The match is being officially touted as “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever”.

This approach of the company has attracted a lot of ire from the fans. They believe that the match is being set up for failure after so much hype being created around it.

To be honest, the two had a fairly decent Last Man Standing match at Wrestlemania 36 that saw Edge take the win.

However, at no point did we feel that it was even the best match of the night. This makes us feel that WWE has been looking for a completely different outcome for the match than the one which they are selling to us.

Anyway, The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels was brought in to add to the hype. Michaels, who has put both Randy and Edge over in the past, decided to do the same for their match.

He believes that the two can actually deliver the promised greatest Wrestling match.

Shawn Michaels explains why he chose Edge instead of Randy Orton

HBK revealed that he is rooting for his long time friend Edge in the match. He listed out the reasons for his choice.

“If I go to my greatest wrestling matches, let’s face it, we’ll be here all day. Alright, so, Edge, Randy Orton, you two have set this stage for the greatest wrestling match ever.

“The question is who’s gotta come out on top. Yeah, it’s a little bit personal but I gotta go with Edge. I’m gonna believe that time, wisdom, knowledge, and dare I say, a little bit of faith gives Edge the edge.”

Interestingly, the Nature Boy Ric Flair has allied with Randy Orton.

Shawn Michaels himself has been part of a few matches that stand out as contenders for the greatest match of all time. This includes his two big encounters against The Undertaker as well as that against Bret Hart.

That’s the kind of competition that Edge and Orton have to measure up to, in order to be a part of the greatest Wrestling match of all time. Considering their age, it’ll be hard to bet in their favor.

Do you think they can deliver in this match?
