Whenever the greatest wrestlers of all time are mentioned, it’s hard to look past the legendary Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan. Both have been an ever-lasting presence in the wrestling world, with illustrious careers spanning decades. While The Nature Boy has been the world champion 16 times, The Hulkster is not far behind with 12 world titles to his name.
The two have crossed paths many times during their monumental careers and in various promotions, no less. However, an incident from 1999 had left a sour taste in the mouth for Flair regarding Hogan.

The erstwhile WCW was giving tough competition to WWE in the famous Monday Night Wars in the late 90s. Both promotions boasted of some serious talents at the time with both Hogan and Flair part of the WCW. Ric Flair’s son David Flair was still in the nascent stage of his career in 1999 when the father-son duo took on Curt Hennig and Barry Windham in a tag team clash. The match was a co-main event of the Souled Out pay-per-view. The Flairs won a hard-fought battle but their night got from bad to worst after the match.
Ric Flair opened up about issues with Hulk Hogan
The nWO led by Hollywood Hogan, attacked the duo and went on a brutal rampage. Ric Flair revisited the infamous incident in his autobiography, ‘Ric Flair: To Be The Man’. He wrote, “What no one had told me was that Hogan would try to be cute and whip David over and over again. It wasn’t fair to make my son go through that — he wasn’t even really a wrestler yet — but there was nothing that I could do. I was handcuffed to the ropes.”

I couldn’t jump up and say, “Hey, don’t do this to my kid.” I wanted to, though, I felt like running over and holding David in my arms, and just stopped that stupid angle right there. He wasn’t ready.” further wrote the legend.

It’s safe to say that Flair was not too pleased with Hogan’s inexplicable actions on that fateful night. The legendary wrestlers weren’t known to share a great relationship and the events from 1999 wouldn’t have helped matters.
The personal equation between the two legends in later years
The two have reportedly worked out their differences since and share a good bond. Hogan was said to be influential behind Flair’s run in TNA in the 2000s. And Flair was a part of the Hulkamania tour to Australia in 2009. The Nature Boy, through his own admittance, invited The Hulkster for his last match earlier this year at the Starrcast V event.
