WWE coined the nickname for Brock Lesnar as ‘The Next Big Thing’ when he arrived in 2002 in the company. Lesnar defeating Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson a few months after his debut, shows how much confident Vince McMahon was with Lesnar at the time.

On August 25, 2002, Lesnar became the youngest WWE superstar to win the top prize, the WWE Championship in the history of the company. This is a record that is yet to be broken in the company for the last 20 years.

Brock Lesnar, in his autobiography, Death Clutch, has written how grateful he is to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for losing clean against him. He has referred to The Rock’s actions by saying, “I’ll always appreciate what Dwayne did for me and my family.”

This major moment in the life of Lesnar. After pinning Johnson clean in the middle of the ring, he was the top superstar of the company. The reason The Rock lost was that he knew Lesnar was the next top star in the company and he had to take some time off to film a movie.

In the book, Lesnar also mentioned Johnson didn’t put his needs over the company and went as per Vince McMahon‘s idea. He wrote, “I don’t know how many other guys Dwayne would have been happy to lose too clean, but he did it for me because he knew I could carry the torch for the company until he got it back. It wasn’t a gift. It was business.”

Brock Lesnar has mentioned that Dwayne Johnson is one of the smart WWE superstars. Apart from helping Lesnar give a major push, losing clean against him, opened a door for The Rock to return. Johnson, after losing, was in a position where he could anytime come back and resume his feud with Lesnar.

 

‘The Beast Incarnate’ was thankful to ‘The Brahma Bull’ for helping to kickstart his WWE career. Lesnar in his book said, “If he hadn’t made me look good, things might have been a lot different.”

The Rock was one of the famous WWE superstars until Brock Lesnar arrived in the company. After defeating The Rock Lesnar, quickly cemented his legacy as the next top WWE star in the company.

However, Brock Lesnar and The Rock both belong to an elite WWE club of being 10-time world champions. Lesnar in his career has won the WWE Championship 7-times and the Universal Championship thrice. Moreover, ‘The Beast’ has won only world titles in WWE and had never won any other titles in the company.

On the other side, The Rock has won the WWE Championship 8 times and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice in his career. Apart from this, he became Intercontinental Champion twice and bagged WWE Tag Team Championship on five occasions.

Both the superstars had taken a long hiatus from the company. Lesnar, in his hiatus, won the IWGP Heavyweight title once and the UFC Heavyweight title once. Meanwhile, The Rock also went on to make a successful Hollywood career.
