Wrestlers often portray characters that are way different than their original personas. It’s one of the important traits for a performer to pull off a believing gimmick for the watching audience. But many times it’s just a smokescreen to hide their real emotions. That was certainly the case with wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. He once battled personal demons in order to get away from personal life issues.

The Hulkster has been among the most loved athlete that has ever graced the squared circle. Looking at his past matches would give an illusion of a larger-than-life persona. People would be forgiven to think he hardly faces any problems in his life. But Hogan revealed in 2010 Finding Hulk Hogan how he coped with his first divorce. How he depended on alcohol to find solutions to real-life issues.

Hulk Hogan opened up on his first divorce

The Immortal One said, “Mindset of you know, I need to drink that wrestler you know whatever a tough-guy gimmick or whatever just let me get this gallon or half a gallon. It was a big bottle of the Captain Morgan 100 and just chugged it, it was like brutal to drink it. It was like drinking gasoline“. He opened up about the alcohol abuse he did to manage his divorce.

Hogan and his first wife Linda filed for divorce back in 2007. And admittedly it was hard for the 12-time world champion to get over the pain initially.

Not only that, but he also endured pain from the tough time that his son Nick Hogan had. The son of the athlete was involved in a major car crash and was lucky to have survived. But The Icon managed to get back from all the setbacks that he faced.

A fan magnet, unlike other

He was a fan’s favorite, like no other. Only wrestler-turned-actors Dwayne Johnson and John Cena come close to the impact that he had. Not only did Hogan woo the fans with his American hero persona, but also played the part of a heel admirably.

His time in the notorious faction nWO is as popular. The late great Scott Hall and Kevin Nash also constituted the erstwhile WCW group. However, the shutdown of the promotion led to reunification with former boss Vince McMahon.

Hulk Hogan portrayed one of the most powerful characters in wrestling back in the 80s. But his divorce forced him to rely on alcohol to feel better. It will be great for the Hulkamaniacs to see their hero bounce back from it. Just like he overcame all his major issues.
