Looks like WWE is finally ready to open the ‘Forbidden Door’ and is willing to welcome superstars of different promotions. In this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE revealed that Mickie James will appear at WWE Royal Rumble PPV.

Now, this is a catch because James is the Impact Knockouts Champion at IMPACT Wrestling. Eventually, it looks like WWE and James have agreed to move from their past.

Does Mickie James still work for WWE?

No, Mickie James does not work for WWE. Instead, she currently wrestles at IMPACT Wrestling! where she is the Impact Knockouts Champion in her fourth reign.

However, James is well known for her time spent in Vince McMahon’s company where she has put multiple classic women’s matches long before the women’s revolution in WWE began.

 

Mickie James had a classic match against WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus at the WrestleMania 22 PPV. The match is still regarded as the match, which changed the way women were portrayed in the wrestling industry.

Why did Mickie James leave WWE?

Even though Mickie James has been a multi-time WWE Women’s champion, she was not always happy with her position in the company.

The current Impact champion has had two separate runs in WWE. Her first run in Vince McMahon’s company ended in 2010 when WWE fired her.

When James debuted in WWE in 2005, she feuded with Trish Stratus and ultimately won her first title in the company against Trish at WrestleMania 22.

Eventually, she had feuds with Lita, Melina, and other legends, like Beth Phoenix. From 2005 to 2010, James became a five-time WWE Women’s champion.

However, in 2010 she was fired from the company. Mickie has confessed multiple times that the company told her that the reason for her release was that the company was moving in a different direction with the women’s division.

Is Mickie James coming back to WWE?

In last night’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE announced the comeback of various female WWE superstars. The Bella Twins, Michelle McCool, and even the reigning Impact knockout’s champion Mickie James will be at the Royal Rumble PPV.

So, yes, Mickie James is coming back to WWE. However, with her working in IMPACT Wrestling, it doesn’t look like she will be in WWE for the long term.

How long was Mickie James in WWE?

Mickie James has had two runs with the company. Her first run lasted from 2005 to 2010 and she came back in 2016 up until she was fired in 2021.

So, in total, James lasted 10 years in the WWE ring.

However, her last altercation with WWE was not a pleasurable one. When James was released by the company last year, she received her belongings in a trash bag.

Now, it looks like the WWE and James have ‘buried the hatchet’ are ready to move on.
