It comes as no surprise that many athletes and celebrities attended WrestleMania XL. The granddaddy of all pro wrestling events, this year’s Mania was set to be the biggest and Jordan Burroughs was among those who were present at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist and six-time world champion was showcased in the crowd while Michael Cole introduced him. However, Dave Meltzer had a reason for Burroughs’s presence at WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer claims the Jordan Burroughs plug had a deeper reason

Taking to social media right after seeing Burroughs in the crowd, Meltzer posted, “Jordan Burroughs was shown to plug the Olympic trials on the USA Network.” While many fans felt that this could be a chance for another Olympic medalist to join the WWE, Meltzer felt differently. WWE fans always get excited about Olympic medalists in the WWE after the trailblazer Kurt Angle made it popular. However, if what Meltzer is saying is true, then this may not be the case for Burroughs.

Despite being the second Olympic medalist in the WWE and signing on in 2021, nothing has come of Steveson. He was trained by The Beast himself, Brock Lesnar. In 2023, he wrestled Baron Corbin on NXT while the crowd chanted defining boos.

He was featured in a few dark matches on SmackDown and has yet to make an impression on the main roster. While looking formidable, his in-ring performance is quite stiff and green. This is why WWE is hesitant to sign more Olympic medalists as wrestlers. However, this wasn’t the only criticism Meltzer had on the WWE.

After Jordan Burroughs, Meltzer called out Jason Kelce

Burroughs wasn’t the only star athlete at Mania. During the Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar match, Jason Kelce appeared to lend a hand. While the hometown hero received a huge pop from the crowd, Metlzer felt it was unnecessary.
