John Cena is a highly recognizable figure in the world of professional wrestling. Despite facing disappointment in his pursuit of a bodybuilding career, Cena turned his attention to the wrestling industry. Cena emerged as one of the prominent figures on the WWE roster but eventually decided to depart from the company and venture into Hollywood with aspirations of becoming an actor.

Taking inspiration from other wrestlers-turned-actors like Batista and The Rock, Cena made his way into the world of film and has since established himself as a highly sought-after actor, enjoying success and recognition as a leading name in the industry.

Over the years, Cena has added several noteworthy films to his list. His most well-known and appreciated work is as Peacemaker. Cena donned the anti-hero costume for this role first in the DC movie Suicide Squad and nailed it to perfection.  Later he got his own spin off series titled Peacemaker, which proved to be a hit.

With season two of Peacemaker slated to release, Cena is also finding himself in the middle of rumors of being cast as the next Captain America.

John Cena shows interest in playing Captain America after Chris Evans’ tenure

The rumors itself began after the 45-year-old expressed his desire of starring as Marvel’s Captain America after Chris Evans’ departure from the franchise. Evans was last seen playing Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, when he retired from the position, and gave his shield to Sam Wilson aka Falcon.

Sam Wilson would then become the next Captain America, in the television series, Captain America and Winter Soldier. He is scheduled to continue his role as the heir of Steve Rogers in the upcoming Captain America film.

However, Cena’s fans are still excited over what The Leader of Cenation said back in 2018. Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Cena expressed his wish of playing Cap.

He said, “If it’s out there, if the Captain America people are listening and you’re watching right now, I’d totally do it. I totally will, because I think I’d be a good Captain America.”

However, for the time being, it does not seem Cena might take up Captain America’s shield as Anthony Mackie is busy playing the role. One of the best-suited heirs to Captain Roger’s shield, Sam Wilson has now done his best, and the fans are loving it.

But, with a multiverse in the plan, several different Captain America might appear in the upcoming films, and fans would not be surprised if John Cena is one of them.

Is there any possibility of John Cena playing Captain America in Avengers?

With the next season of Peacemaker about to release, there is very little chance of John Cena playing Captain America in the upcoming MCU films. However, one cannot say never ever.

Various actors have taken up iconic roles after much deliberation and commitments elsewhere. Notably, Christian Bale who played Batman in the Dark Knight trilogy, recently made his MCU debut as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Fans are now awaiting to see if Cena finally dons the blue costume, and shield to take over Chris Evans as the next Captain America. Although Evans had previously expressed that he was done with playing the role, another MCU director had spoken the opposite.

John Cena also teased his fans with a picture of the shield on his Instagram profile, however, fans are often unable to decrypt what most of his Instagram posts signify.

It has been nearly four years since fans have seen Chris Evans as Captain America. However, with the multiverse now in full motion, it won’t be too late before fans get to witness Chris Evans again in his hit role, and maybe John Cena tagging alongside him as Captain Rogers from another universe.
