Cody Rhodes as Homelander—Genius casting or a total misfire? What’s your take?

The American Nightmare is on the crest of a wave since his victory over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in the Bloodline Rules Match that allowed him to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. Following the title victory, he successfully defended it against AJ Styles at both Backlash: France and Clash at the Castle: Scotland. While at the King and Queen of the Rings, he defeated Logan Paul to retain his championship. However, it seems like it’s not just WWE that the son of the American Dream is conquering.

Going beyond the weekly borders, the episodes of the fourth season of The Boys, now an iconic superhero TV series starring Karl Urban, Antony Starr, and Jack Quaid, have been coming out on Amazon Prime Video in recent weeks. And obviously, its advertising makes a lot of noise.

Speaking of advertising, in one of the latest commercials, Cody Rhodes made a brief appearance to advertise The Boys. As he can be seen dressed up like Homelander while his back is against the camera. With Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, Batista, and Roman Reigns becoming Hollywood stars, is Cody Rhodes also following the path to the silver screen? Or at least the television screens for now in a full-fledged TV series? Let’s find out!

Poll of the day

Do you think Cody Rhodes would make a good Homelander in "The Boys"?

Absolutely

No way

Maybe, but needs work

I don't care

The Boys is one of Amazon’s biggest hits that returned to Amazon Prime Video with its fourth season on June 13. In fact, its universe on Amazon Prime Video has expanded with other productions. Such as the animated fiction The Boys: Diabolical in 2022 and the spin-off Generation V in 2023. So knowing the popularity of the show, they would surely want major twists, turns, and cameos to keep the audiences on the edge of their seats.

And it seems like one such cameo might take place. And that is the appearance of the American Nightmare on the show. In a recent tweet, Cody Rhodes shared an advertisement for the show where The American Nightmare adressed up as Homelander, the antagonist of the series masterfully played by Antony Starr. Addressing him with the catchphrase “What do you want to talk about?” Before his eyes light up like the distorted blond Superman from The Boys. While in the caption to the post, he wrote, “Homelander, you just met your American Nightmare! Watch all new episodes of The Boys streaming now on Prime Video. #ad @TheBoysTV @PrimeVideo”

Fans have always been vocal about how Rhodes’ outfit always seemed like the one that Homelander wears. And now we finally saw him address his fictional counterpart as well. But alas, it will most likely stay limited to the advertisement. It is likely that Rhodes is just helping to promote the series. Although fans would be hoping that he also makes a small appearance on the show to blur the lines between reality and fiction.

The wrestling faithful will also be hopeful that the former AEW star dons a similar persona if and when he turns heel in the WWE. But for now, fans will have to be satisfied with their favorite superstar promoting the show instead of adopting the mannerisms of its main character.
