WWE superstars are elite athletes who fight and perform dangerous stunts to entertain us. However, the superstars do not own the copyrights to their names as they are merely performers who portray certain characters. Wrestling promotions often use the ring names for merchandises and trademarks. However, in some cases, wrestlers do own the trademark to their name as displayed by the recent case of Dwayne Johnson. Well, there are a few WWE superstars who do own the rights to their in-ring name.

From Hulk Hogan to Cody Rhodes, WWE superstars with ownership of their ring-name

So, here is a list of WWE superstars who hold the trademark to their WWE ring name.

1. CM Punk: Philip Jack Brooks, the man behind the CM Punk character, owns the trademark to his name. Hence, wrestling fans could see him appear at AEW with the ring name that got him popular in the wrestling business.

2. Cody Rhodes: Cody Runnels aka Cody Rhodes also holds the trademark to his in-ring name. He used the Rhodes name in honor of his father but once he left WWE he faced issues using the ‘Rhodes’ name as WWE owned it. During his days in the independent circuit he finally got the name’s rights and carried it to AEW. When he returned to the WWE, he used the same gimmick. Interestingly, he also owns the trademark of his father’s name, Dusty Rhodes.

3. The Rock: Dwayne Johnson used his popularity from his WWE days to full advantage when he transitioned to Hollywood. However, when he returned to WWE as one of the board members of TKO Group, Ari Emanuel gifted him the license to his in-ring name. As expected, Dwayne Johnson was excited to get his name back.

4. AJ Styles: Alan Jones Styles made his name in the wrestling business during his stint at Impact Wrestling. He transitioned to WWE in 2016 under the same ring name and moniker as he owns the trademark to it.

5. Ric Flair: The Nature boy has wrestled in the business using the same name since his days in the NWA. He revealed that he had changed his name officially to Richard Morgan Fliehr before adopting Ric Flair. He uses the same name and moniker while working at AEW and for promoting his businesses.

6. Chris Jericho: Christopher Keith Irvine has wrestled with the same name since his days in WCW. He has carried the same name as AEW as he owns the trademark to his name.

7. Hulk Hogan: The Immortal Hulk Hogan aka Terry Gene Bollea became popular worldwide with his in-ring name. He used the same gimmick as Hulkamania during his days in the WWE, WCW, NJPW, and TNA.
