Ric Flair is one of the most esteemed alumni of WWE. Dubbed The Nature Boy, the two-time WWF World Champion has made an unsurmountable impact in pro wrestling with his charismatic persona and impressive skillset. After he retired from professional wrestling, Flair decided to become an entrepreneur. He launched his brand of energy drinks called “Wooooo “ after his iconic catchphrase. He also launched a cannabis brand last year. He highlighted the challenges that wrestlers face if they launch a business while working with the wrestling promotion. After gaining considerable entrepreneurial success, the 74-year-old star opens up about how his relationship with WWE.

“I don’t work for them anymore” says Ric Flair

Ric Flair was in conversation with Chris Van Vliet on his podcast. When Vliet asked him about his relationship with WWE after spawning a successful business, he said, “It’s fine. I don’t work for them.” But according to him, WWE will always have a special place in his heart. He said, “ I am always gonna be indebted and be thankful for the relationship over the years”. Later on, he added that working with WWE comes with a catch. “When you work for them, you are pretty much locked up to anything and they are and they have a real tough, enforceable contract,” Flair said.

He then added, “So I wouldn’t be able to do marijuana. I certainly wouldn’t be able to have the energy drink unless I gave them 50% or something like that” implying that, according to him, he wouldn’t be able to do a profitable business if he was still a part of WWE. Flair launched his energy drink back in July 2023. According to him, it is a unique product as it contains edible and safe mushrooms in the drink. He also launched his cannabis company, Ric Flair Drip, last year along with Mike Tyson. The 73-year-old business tycoon is trying to change how people party.

Ric Flair was and still is against the fact that WWE takes a commission from contract-bound stars who have businesses. But the Hall of Famer thinks that there is a justification for it.  

The Nature Boy “doesn’t like” the WWE taking a cut but “understands” why

As Ric Flair highlighted, the Stamford-based promotion takes a commission from contract-bound stars who have businesses. “And you know in all fairness, I don’t like that”, he said, showing his opposition to the idea. But according to him, it is fair on the promotions side. “But I can understand they are going to put, give you the TV time, and give you the opportunity for yourself to become a star.” Flair believes that the company does deserve the cut for making stars.

Flair is one of the oldest pro wrestling stars in the world. The amount of success he has achieved in his wrestling career at first glance seems unlikely to usurp.
