John Cena has accomplished everything in his WWE career. A 16-time world champion, two-time Royal Rumble winner and multiple main events of WrestleMania are just some of his top achievements.
The Leader of Cenation also enjoys a great deal of fan support and has turned a lot of his early detractors into his admirers.
During his early run as the top guy in WWE, he would have the crowd split in the middle over him. This turned into a more pro-Cena crowd over the years, but some of the criticism from people has remained.

As top guy, Cena has been the victim of the notion that he held back young talent in WWE. There has been other criticism about his ability in the ring, among other things. Four years ago, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, the Peacemaker star addressed these notions and how he felt about it.
John Cena talked about the biggest misconception people have about him
John Cena’s run in WWE as the face of the company was polarizing initially. His long title reigns and the uber baby face persona divided the fans. Although the fans have warmed up to the Doctor of Thugnanomics over the years, there has been some constant critique about his wrestling career.
Some wrestlers have claimed that Cena ‘buried‘ them and people have alleged that his run as Super Cena held back many talents.
However, in the interview with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina in 2018, Cena talked about this issue among others and cited that people’s perception of him may be off the mark.
Before this interview with SI, Cena had already done one and had scheduled another interview after this.
Traina asked Cena if he ever got sick of doing these many interviews. Cena replied, “No! Amazingly enough, with everything I do, I think I’m tremendously misunderstood. Because people are so used to what they see on television.”
This prompted the host to ask what the biggest misconception about him was. Cena said that people think that he is what they see on TV.
When the host pointed out that it may be a good thing, since Cena always played the good guy, the former U. S Champion said it is up to the perception of the viewer.
He answered, “The perception of that is up to the viewer. Like, the perception that I hold talent back. I never once have done that, I just go out and do my thing.”
Moreover, he added that some people may have problems with his on-screen character of his the fact he didn’t perform great moves in the ring.
He continued, “But someone can look at the character John Cena and have disdain for that. Or disdain that I’m not performing as a bad guy. And that’s the root of their criticism. Or that I don’t do great maneuvers. And that takes the guy you see, and makes him — ‘I don’t like this guy.’
