Over the years, Stone Cold Steve Austin has entertained the fans whether in the ring or doing a podcast. He rose up the ranks during the Attitude Era and became the biggest star professional wrestling has ever seen.

Austin suffered from multiple injuries during his WWE career. The most notable is the neck injury he suffered during his match against Owen Hart, which troubled him throughout his career. However, WWE Hall of Famer almost got a heart attack once before his last match against The Rock.

In the autobiography, ‘The Stone Cold Truth’, Steve Austin mentioned the night before WrestleMania 19. He spent the previous night at the hospital before facing The Rock in his last match. Austin started feeling pain in his chest earlier the day before the grandest stage.

Even though he was feeling a pain in his chest, he went to the gym with Kevin Nash. He did a lightweight workout and while cycling he showed Nash the improper reflexes of his foot. The former WCW Champion’s reaction to was, “Jesus Christ”.

Austin started feeling uneasy when he reached his floor at the Grand Hyatt hotel. In his book, he mentioned, “My heartbeat might be doing 160 or 180 beats per minute. It just feels like my heart’s going to jump out of my chest. I’ve been fatigued in matches before, totally out of gas and winded, but this is scaring the hell out of me. I’m sure I’m having a heart attack.”

However, at first, he took a few deep breaths, thinking it’s an anxiety attack. But the pain wasn’t going away, and he called the front desk for a doctor. At first, they put the call on hold, so Austin hanged up and called again.

The Rattlesnake said on the call, “I got an emergency. This is Steve Austin and there’s something wrong with me. I need some help. I think I’m having a heart attack.”

The WWE doctors and officials reached Austin’s room. They sneaked him through the fans outside the hotel into the ambulance. Austin was drinking energy drinks and pots of coffee from the previous day. This caused dehydration in his body. Austin mentioned that the hospital gave him five bags of fluids and a normal person needs two bags.

Moreover, Vince McMahon stayed the whole night with Stone Cold. The next night, The Texas Rattlesnake appeared at WrestleMania 19 and wrestled his last match with The Rock. Although the Texan lost to Hollywood Rock, both put on astonishing performances, as they always did.

Steve Austin took a long hiatus after that last match, until he returned to the ring in the latest WrestleMania this year, to face off against Kevin Owens. Further, there’s no denying that the 19-year break certainly nurtured and helped him to maintain his health as he was able to deliver what fans wanted with his natural charisma at WrestleMania 38.
