Brock Lesnar, in his first run, was another, level. Thanks to his amateur wrestling background, he surprised everyone with his sheer commitment to reaching the top. However, even in WWE, he was competitive behind the scenes in ‘real matches’. Recently, a WWE Legend recalled how ‘The Beast Incarnate’ once was confident that he could “kick his butt”.
Everyone has seen Lesnar’s love for real fights aka matches that are not pre-determined in UFC. Similarly, in WWE there was a superstar who went toe-to-toe with him in a real match.

Brock Lesnar is a force to reckon with and several UFC and WWE stars have said the same. During ‘The Conqueror’s’ first run in WWE, he was another superstar with an amateur wrestling background. Hence, many wanted to see a match of him facing WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in a shoot fight backstage.
In a recently published A&E WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures video, we can see Angle recalling the same. ‘The Wrestling Machine’ reminisced how Lesnar was confident about defeating him in an amateur wrestling match to which the WWE Hall of Famer had challenged him.
The Olympic Gold Medalist said, “We had an incident the first time I met him. Somebody came up to him and said, ‘Hey how do you think you would do against Kurt Angle in a real match?’ He said, ‘I’ll kick his butt’.”
WWE Universe has witnessed a pro wrestling match between Angle and Lesnar several times. The 60-minute Iron Match in 2003 on an episode of SmackDown still is one of their classics.
Nevertheless, the 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist and the 2000 NCCA Champion had a shoot fight backstage. Kurt Angle defeated Brock Lesnar who was 90 pounds heavier than him in that fight. Surprisingly, it took time for Angle to consider Lesnar a real deal in WWE.
The day Kurt Angle called Lesnar a worthy opponent!
In this same episode, Angle recalled Lesnar rejected the first challenge from the WWE Hall of Famer. This shoot fight came months after their first encounter. But the Olympic Hero also shared when he finally believed The Beast was indeed the real deal and ‘The Next Big Thing’.
The 54-year-old recalled Lesnar once slamming Big Show aka Paul Wight with ease. Wight was nearly 530 pounds at this point. Hence, this made Angle think Lesnar was no joke and a legitimate competitor in WWE and real fights.
